Live in Munich 1977
Rainbow was formed by Ritchie Blackmore in 1975 after he left Deep Purple at the height of their fame. They were instantly successful and released a string of hit albums, with an ever-changing line up, between 1975 and 1983 when Blackmore broke up the group to join the reformed Deep Purple. This concert from their European tour in 1977 features the line up responsible for the "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll" album released later that year, including vocalist Ronnie James Dio and drummer Cozy Powell. Blackmore had to be smuggled out of Austria after trouble with the police at a gig two nights earlier, and was very late arriving in Munich, all of which seemed to inspire both the band and the audience to create a truly remarkable gig.

Tenacious D - The Complete Master Works
With pitchfork and shovel, Tenacious D has labored to finally unearth the first ever Tenacious D-VD from the fragrant bowels of Hades. For years, this turd has been spit-polished, massaged, and finally sanctified by both Jables and KG, and they are now ready release it to the world. This highly provocative DVD contains the legendary and epic recital at London's Brixton Academy that was by chance recorded on November 3, 2002. Watch as Jack and Kyle slay the mighty dragon and treat the British public to a phenomenal performance that includes the now classic D melodies; Wonderboy, Explosivo, Kyle Quit The Band, Friendship, Kielbasa, Dio, The Cosmic Shame, F#*! Her Gently, Tribute and the ever popular Live Short Films that have been screened during The D's shows. The Complete Masterworks also contains the groundbreaking, hard to get (legally), HBO episodes which tell the tale of The D in their early days on the road to stardom. But that's not all! Act now and a bonus second disc will be gifted to the first twelve million loyal Tenacious D apostles, included is an intimate portrait of Jack and Kyle and their life of carnal debauchery on the road. Lucky owners of the DVD will catch rare and gruesome behind the scenes glimpses of the making of the Tribute & Wonderboy videos as well as never before seen footage of The D as they perform their secret backstage rituals. TENACIOUS D: THE COMPLETE MASTERWORKS is truly a harbinger of the good times ahead as we all await the coming apocalypse.

The Wall (Live in Berlin) seemed uninspired and gimmicky in 1990 but looks and sounds terrifically compelling on DVD, thanks to its vivid image quality and greatly improved audio mixes. The freshly mineswept Potsdamer platz--a once-thriving plaza destroyed by Allied bombing in 1943--proved the perfect place to mark the opening of the Berlin Wall with an all-star production of Pink Floyd's magnum opus: a Wall for a wall. An unlikely assemblage of musicians augments Roger Waters's impressive house band (led by guitarist Rick DiFonzo and organ wizard Nick Glennie-Smith), with everyone from the Scorpions to Joni Mitchell to the Military Orchestra of the Soviet Army getting in on the rock-opera action. Cyndi Lauper, Bryan Adams, James Galway, Thomas Dolby, and Albert Finney all turn in tasty cameos, while Sinead O'Connor looks unaccountably aloof in "Mother." The documentary is thorough and juicy, and producer Tony Hollingsworth offers an above-par essay in the booklet. --Michael Mikesell

Wrigleyville is transformed into Margaritaville as Jimmy Buffett, his band, and many thousands of his dancing, beer-guzzling, Hawaiian shirt-wearing, lei-draped fans invade the venerable Chicago baseball stadium for Live at Wrigley Field Double Header. Held over Labor Day weekend, 2005, the concerts themselves (a daytime show occupies one disc, with a nighttime set on the second) are standard Buffett fare--i.e., another opportunity for the above-named "Parrotheads" to pah-tay--but as the singer-songwriter frequently observes, the venue is something special. Before Buffett arrived, concerts on the sacred ground known as "the friendly confines" were as rare as Cub victories in the World Series (the team's last world championship, in 1908, preceded the opening of Wrigley Field by some six years), and Buffett, a onetime Chicago resident and longtime Cubs fan, is clearly thrilled to be there. Musically, familiar titles like "Cheeseburger in Paradise," Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw," and, of course, "Margaritaville" pretty much sum it up; those looking for depth would be as likely to find it on, say, a Paris Hilton record as here. Simply put, Jimmy Buffett don't play no blues, or lament lost love, or bemoan the state of the world; this is sun-soaked party music, no more and no less, and the folks eat it up. But the band (some 15 musicians, singers, and dancers) is right on it, and several moments during the first set evoke the loose-but-tight, slide guitar-driven feel of one of the great American groups, Little Feat (whose keyboardist, Bill Payne, is sitting in). And while Buffett is no one's idea of a world-class vocalist, his songs almost invariably include catchy choruses that everyone loves to sing along with, and his choice of covers includes Hank Williams' "Hey Good Lookin'," Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl," Crosby, Stills & Nash's "Southern Cross," the Grateful Dead's "Scarlet Begonias," and Bruce Springsteen's "Glory Days" (found among the bonus materials). Film montages of Buffett living the good life help break up the visual monotony of a long (165 minutes) concert, and technically the shows look and sound terrific. And don't miss ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro's astonishing rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" (also found among the bonus stuff), which may be the highlight of the whole gig. --Sam Graham

Few performances by legendary guitar hero Stevie Ray Vaughan have been caught on tape. Due to his untimely death in 1991 fans have been left with a lean legacy of music but one that is rich with highlights such as the performance at Toronto's El Macambo in 1983. Four of the songs included here were never released in Vaughan's lifetime the other eight were band favorites from the early days. Set includes: "Testify" "Texas Flood" "Wham!" and Jimi Hendrix's "Voodoo Chile Slight Return".

The Crystal Method's music isn't exactly the stuff high-resolution audio demos are made of, but it certainly provides excellent fodder for a surround sound demo. Perhaps that's why DTS choose not to include a single 24/96 track on the new Legion of Boom DVD-Audio. Both the 5.1-channel DVD-Audio and 6.1-channel DTS ES soundtracks are 24-bit/48-kilohertz, while the PCM stereo track is 16/48. No matter. The audio quality is good, but DTS is banking on the surround mix to draw people in. In keeping with the surround theme, the DVD-Audio's extras are all in DTS ES, including 16:9 versions of the original and director's cuts of the "Born Too Slow" video, directed by Gore Verbinski (The Pirates of the Caribbean, The Ring). There's also a run-of-the-mill 11-minute making-of featurette, a photo gallery, a bio, and an interesting breakdown of the "True Grit" mix: You can listen to drums only, drums, and bass, everything but the vocals, and the final mix. It gives you a glimpse of how the duo work their mixing mojo. 5.1 Producer: Jeff Levison
